What do you guys do?

Door to Door Organics is an online grocery delivery service that partners with local farmers & artisans to deliver certified-organic fruits & vegetables, farm-fresh milk & dairy foods, humanely raised meat & chicken, sustainable fish & seafood & a curated natural, local groceries to your door every week. We deliver year-round & source organic & local foods whenever possible.

How does your online grocery store work?

Check out this quick visual on how our online grocery delivery service works. Here’s the lowdown: To sign up, start by choosing a box size. Our organic produce boxes range in size from the Bitty (4-5 fruit selections & 5 vegetable selections) up to our Large box (7-8 fruit selections & 9-10 vegetable selections). You can also opt for an all organic-fruit box or an all organic-vegetable box.

  • Bitty: Our most popular choice is perfect for the single cook, roommates, or a couple.
  • Small: Ideal for a couple that loves to cook & may have a small child.
  • Medium: Feeds a vegetarian couple or a family with some vegetable- & fruit-loving kids.
  • Large: More than enough to satisfy a larger family’s needs. It’s also perfect for when you’re planning a get-together.

Each Thursday afternoon, our produce team creates a seasonally appropriate menu for the coming week. (Orders are “locked” during this time so you can’t shop.) Then the fun starts Friday: As soon as you receive your reminder email, you can start customizing your box—up until 10pm the day before your delivery. That’s your window to sub out up to 5 produce items, swapping fruits & vegetables you don’t need (or like) for ones you do. During this time, you can also add other organic produce you need for the week along with favorite grocery items & make account changes, like switching your box size or putting your order on hold for up to 6 weeks. Then we deliver your order on your scheduled delivery day—at no charge.

Why should I choose Door to Door Organics?
Do you only sell produce?

In addition to the freshest organic fruits & vegetables, we carry a large, carefully curated selection of natural, local groceries. We source high-quality local foods that are produced sustainably & humanely, including farm-fresh local meat, eggs, milk & cheese; fresh-baked artisan breads & baked goods; and sustainable seafood & wild-caught fish.

Is all your produce organic?

Yes! All of our produce is USDA-certified organic.

Why do you choose to offer organic food?

We believe organic food is better for our health & the health of the planet. Organic produce is grown without the use of harmful pesticides & herbicides. Learn more about organic food’s health benefits.

What does a USDA organic certification mean?

USDA organic certification ensures:

  • Organic food has not been processed or grown using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.
  • Organic foods have not been produced using genetic engineering (GMOs), growth hormones, antibiotics, or radiation.
  • USDA-certified organic farms must maintain strict records of all farm activities & are subject to frequent inspections, both routine & surprise. Farms must be free of chemicals for three years before being certified. Additionally, crops must be rotated, meaning the same crop is not grown on the same plot of land year after year, which depletes soil nutrients.
  • Organic farming practices contribute to preserving and restoring soil health; healthy organic soil actually absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere, helping reduce greenhouse gasses.
  • Organic farming practices also reduce toxic chemical runoff that pollutes waterways & affects wildlife, including bees, which are critical to food production.
  • Organic farming practices are also healthier for farmers & workers, because they’re not exposed to toxic herbicide & pesticide chemicals.
  • All of our warehouses are also USDA-certified organic processing facilities, so they have met the highest & most rigorous standards for organic distribution & processing in our industry.
Is all the food you sell certified organic & non-GMO?

No. All our produce & some of our grocery items are USDA-certified organic & labeled with the official green organic seal. Other groceries contain at least 70% USDA-certified organic ingredients so are labeled as “Made with Organic Ingredients,” according to the USDA. Our non-GMO foods are also labeled at the Shop. Find certified organic & non-GMO foods here.

You may wonder why we also sell items that are not certified organic or non-GMO. We believe that Good Food is about meeting people where they are & helping them move in the direction of something better. We strive to provide high-quality food in a well-rounded, affordable shopping experience & offer organic & non-GMO options whenever possible. We also strive to consider animal welfare, nutrition, food miles & many other attributes. For instance, we don’t want to exclude small, local artisan food producers who aren't yet able to finance organic certification or non-GMO verification, because we know they have such positive community & environmental impacts.

What sort of standards do your non-organic foods meet?

All the food we carry is made with high-quality ingredients & never contains hormones; antibiotics; artificial sweeteners, preservatives, colors & flavors; & other stuff you don’t want to feed your family. If an item is not labeled organic, you can be sure it meets Door to Door Organics' Good Food Standards.

Is all your produce local?

No, since many fruits & vegetables do not grow year-round in our regions. Our local growing season is from June through October, with some hearty items like potatoes & onions growing locally into the colder weather. During the winter, we bring in fresh organic items primarily from California, Arizona & Mexico. Certain items like bananas are not grown in the U.S., so we import those from Central America.

A big part of our mission is to support local food in every way possible, so we partner with local farmers within a day’s drive of our warehouse. Organic fruits & vegetables grown locally on small family farms are fresher & offer more variety, since small farmers experiment more with heirloom varieties & diverse crops that bigger farms don’t grow. Choosing local foods is a great way to support the environment, our community, the local economy & your health.

How much does each organic produce box cost?

Well, it depends on the size that works best for your family…

Bitty Box: $24.99. Delivery is free when you spend $75 or more, otherwise delivery is $5.00. Taxes will vary based on the contents of your order and your shipping address.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver to 15 states & 80 cities throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado & Wyoming. Check to see if we deliver to you.

When do you deliver?

We start delivering at 7 a.m. & strive to finish all deliveries by 6 p.m., but sometimes our drivers are delayed by traffic, bad weather, or other factors we can’t control. Our drivers will knock to let you know your box has arrived. Nobody needs to be home; we'll simply leave it at your door.

Can I pick my delivery day?

In many cases, yes. In some locations, we deliver every weekday. To learn which days we deliver to you, go to the My Subscriptions page then click “Change delivery day” at bottom right. Also on this page, update Special Instructions about your delivery, including whether it’s a business delivery or where you prefer we put your order.

How much does delivery cost?

We offer free delivery on orders $75 or more before taxes and promos. Otherwise, delivery is $5.00.

Why didn’t I get free delivery?

Free delivery is valid only on orders with a subtotal of $75 or more before taxes and promos. View your Order Details page to make sure your subtotal is above this amount. If it is above $75 and your free delivery is not applying, call us at 888-2-VEGGIE (888.283.4443) and we’ll dig in!

Will my delivery fee increase if I add more groceries to my subscription box?

Never. Add as many groceries as you want to your cart & delivery will always be a flat rate of $5.00, unless, of course, you spend $75, then—good news!—delivery is FREE.

Do you tax delivery?

Yes, we collect state sales tax for delivery and products. The actual amount is based on the tax rules for your shipping address and are calculated once your order ships.

What if I'm not home when the produce comes?

No problem. We’ll leave your box right by your front door. If there’s another spot that you would prefer we leave your order, let us know on the My Subscriptions page in the Special Delivery Instructions section.

How long will the produce stay fresh if left outside?

We work hard to ensure everything gets to your doorstep in great condition & even do extensive testing to make certain that if the box is left on your doorstep for extended periods, the food is still fresh, safe, & happy & when you bring it inside. When summer heats up, we pack your produce with ice packs to keep your order cool. When it’s frigid outside, we wrap your Good Food with insulation to keep it from freezing on your doorstep. To help keep your food fresh in extreme temperatures, get your box inside as quickly as possible.

Do you deliver to other locations besides homes?

Yes. We can deliver to your work, school, or any address within our delivery range. We cannot deliver to a P.O. Box.

Do I have to commit to getting deliveries for a minimum time period?

You can choose between weekly & biweekly (every other week) deliveries of organic produce & local, natural groceries. At any time, you can cancel your subscription or put your order on hold for up to 6 weeks.

Do I get to choose my produce “menu” each week?

Our produce experts set a seasonal assortment each week that you can customize. On the Friday before delivery, you will receive a reminder email that includes a list of the coming week’s organic fruit & vegetable selection. At that point, you can substitute produce items, change box sizes, add items, or skip an order.

Can my order be customized?

Absolutely! You can make up to five substitutions to your organic produce box. Don't like collards but love apples? No problem. Just go to Produce Preferences & let us know about fruits or vegetables you never want to receive. Then customize your order even more by adding organic, natural & local foods like farm-fresh milk, humanely raised meat, sustainable seafood, pantry staples & much more. Find it all at the Shop.

How do Recurring Orders work?

Get your online grocery shopping done even faster & easier when you add staple items you buy every week to Recurring Orders. Then when your Weekly Order is created on Friday, these staples will automatically appear in your order. You'll see the Recurring Orders icon—a blue shopping cart with a curved arrow-on many staple products like milk, bread, eggs, bananas, yogurt, lettuce, & more. Click the icon to add these items to your Recurring Order. You can manage your Recurring Orders on the My Subscriptions page.

If I add a sale item to my Recurring Order, will I lock in that price?

Since prices on items may change weekly, you'll only get the item at the sale price when it's on sale. You always will be charged the week's current price for the product.

I don't need an item in my Recurring Order this week, so can I change that?

Sure! Just go to your Order at left on the homepage & click Customize My Order. Then remove the item you don't need this week or adjust the quantity. That way it will remain in your Recurring Order for future weeks.

How do I remove an item from my Recurring Order?

You can change your Recurring Order on the My Subscriptions page. Just click the "×" next to the product you want to remove & click Edit to change the quantity. Also, on the Shop product pages for items in your Recurring Order, you can click Edit My Recurring Order to remove the item from your current Weekly Order, as well as your Recurring Order.

What if you are out of stock on an item in my Recurring Order?

We try to keep staple items in stock, but once in a while, we sell out. If we are out of an item in your Recurring Order, we'll let you know on delivery day with a sticker on your box. You will not be charged for any out-of-stock items.

I don't see a Recurring Order icon on a product I buy each week. Can I still add that item?

Right now you can't add that product to your Recurring Order, but we're adding popular products all the time. Be on the lookout for the blue shopping cart icon appearing on your favorite foods. Feel free to let customer service know what additional items you'd like to see available for Recurring Orders so we can make our buying teams aware of your request.

Can I hold or pause my deliveries?

Absolutely! You can put your account on hold for up to 6 weeks by changing your settings in your account.

We’ll send you an email confirming your scheduled hold dates. Later, we’ll send you another email the week before your restart date to remind you that your delivery is coming.

*Skip or Hold changes must be made before 10 p.m. the day before your delivery day, otherwise your order for the week will still be arriving.

Need to extend your hold for more than 6 weeks? As soon as your scheduled hold ends, you can schedule another hold for up to 6 weeks.

How can I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time by following these steps:

Cancellation changes must be made before 10 p.m. the day before your delivery day, otherwise your order for the week will still be arriving.

If you change your mind and decide to come back, it’s easy to start getting deliveries again:

I received dry ice with my order—what should I do with it?

When you order frozen food, we pack it with dry ice to keep it frozen. We safely store dry ice inside your box’s foam insulation then place your frozen food below that insulation. Please follow these safety instructions when you receive dry ice:

  • Do not handle or remove dry ice at all. You do not need to dispose of it since it will evaporate within a few hours.
  • Keep the box intact with the foam insulation inside. Set it out on your next delivery day so we can dispose of the empty ice bag & reuse the packing materials.
  • Store box in a well-ventilated area away from children & pets. If dry ice is still present, it will evaporate within a few hours.
  • Do not touch dry ice. It can burn skin & eyes.
  • Do not inhale dry ice vapors. This can cause dizziness & difficulty breathing.
  • Do not eat dry ice. If ingested, please seek immediate medical attention.
Does dry ice contribute to greenhouse gas emissions?

Dry ice is the frozen form of liquid carbon dioxide, or CO2. As it melts, it changes back into gaseous CO2. Dry ice's contribution to CO2 emissions is minimal, especially when compared to vehicles, which produce 30% of greenhouse emissions. By skipping trips to the store & getting groceries delivered, you’re reducing CO2 emissions by about half. At Door to Door Organics, the CO2 we help customers keep out of the air is equal to planting 1,080 trees or taking 23 cars off the road for a year.

What should I do with my box & other packing materials?

Don't worry about recycling our 100% recyclable, Sustainable Forestry Initiative-certified boxes & other packing materials. We'll do that for you. Just leave your broken-down boxes, packing materials & milk bottles outside on your delivery day. (Leave boxes with dry ice, foam, or any kind of liner intact.) We’ll pick them up to recycle or reuse the packaging & you can feel good about helping our planet. Fun fact: the recyclable liners we use to insulate your boxes are made from recycled jeans.

Can I get a reminder to shop before my Weekly Order locks at 10 p.m. the day before my scheduled delivery?

If you sometimes forget to customize your produce box or add groceries to your order before it locks, we can help. Let us send you a reminder the day before your order locks, so you'll never again miss the chance to add your favorite foods. Just check the box next to Last Chance to Shop under Email Subscriptions & we'll send you a heads-up so you can finish shopping each week.

I’m not satisfied with an item I received in my order. What should I do?

We want you to be overjoyed with every aspect of our service, from your first click to your last bite, so we created the Joy Delivered Guarantee. How do I pay for my order?

Payment is done via credit or debit card. We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover & American Express. Your card is charged within two working days after your box has been delivered.

Do you accept WIC/EBT as a form of payment?

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accept WIC/EBT/SNAP as a form of payment. Our current online grocery delivery does not meet the government requirements for the WIC/EBT/SNAP program, but we are looking into how we can change this.

How does your company stay green?

In 2012, Door to Door Organics became the first grocer in Colorado to attain B Corporation status after meeting rigorous standards of social & environmental performance, accountability & transparency. For instance, using cutting-edge technology, our routing specialists determine the most fuel- & time-efficient way to deliver orders. Our concentrated delivery areas help reduce the number of vehicles on the road by consolidating deliveries into one vehicle & route.

How does your company support the community?

One of the many ways is by donating organic produce weekly to local food banks. In 2014, Door to Door Organics donated 471,000 pounds of organic produce to food banks in our communities. Our employees also regularly pack care packages for local food banks or volunteer at local, organic farms to help them harvest or weed fields. Door to Door Organics also offers an interest-free farmer loan program to support local, organic farms during the spring, the leanest time of year when expenses are heavy but no money is coming in. Later when crops are harvested, the farmer pays us back with organic fruits & vegetables.

What are Door to Door Organics co-ops?

A co-op is formed when four or more orders go to one location, such as a home, school, or office. Each person still has control over their own box, such as what size they want & what substitutions they want to make. Each person simply picks up their box at the same location as their co-op buddies--instead of having it delivered to their home.

Door to Door Organics offers two types of co-ops:

  • Community co-ops are designed for groups of four or more friends, neighbors, or coworkers who want to save money by having their orders delivered to one location. Each box is discounted by $3. Co-ops offer people a place to come together and share in their values of healthy food, a healthy planet and the importance of community.
  • Fundraising co-ops are also available for schools, non-profit organizations & religious institutions. A fundraising co-op functions the same as a community co-op. However, instead of individual discounts, Door to Door Organics tracks all monthly sales & donates 10% of each box sale to the school or organization. Donation checks are mailed to the school or organization on a monthly basis for as long as the co-op is active. With a fundraising co-op, you are giving back to your community every time you receive your order.

We want to make organic produce as accessible and affordable as possible, so please contact us for more information about sharing the benefits of organic food co-ops with friends, family and neighbors, or visit our co-op page for more details.

Are all boxes in a co-op the same?

Definitely not. Each person can choose from four different box sizes. These boxes can be all fruit, all veggie, or a combo of both. Each person can then make up to five substitutions if there is something in the box they do not want, or really do want, that week.

How are payments made in a co-op?

Each person in a co-op has an individual account with Door to Door Organics. This allows each customer to have separate control of their payments, such as with changing credit cards or putting their service on hold when on vacation. Your credit card will be charged after you have received your box.

How do I start a co-op?

We're proud of our co-ops and support them 100%, but unfortunately we've reached our capacity for new co-ops. If you want to participate in our co-op program, please join an already established co-op. We’re currently improving our community support programs, so stay tuned for changes later this year.
