The term wheatgrass refers to grass, grown from hard wheat berries, which is
grown indoors in trays for about 10 days and is then cut and squeezed into fresh
juice. Although many varieties of grasses can be juiced, wheatgrass is the most
popular. It contains such a wide range of nutrients that many consider it to be
a complete food providing all that is needed to sustain life.
Because of its high concentration of chlorophyll, wheatgrass juice is often
referred to as "liquid sunshine." But chlorophyll is just one of its
many nutrients.
Wheatgrass is especially high in
- calcium,
- magnesium,
- potassium,
- B-vitamins and,
- the antioxident, vitamin E.
Wheatgrass is also used like an herbal medicine for its therapeutic role in
blood purification, liver detoxification and colon cleansing. But, please remember
that our bodies are unique. If you are new to juicing, we urge you to check with
your health care professional before you make any dietary change
Juicing Wheatgrass
When juicing wheatgrass you must use a juicer specifically designed to "squeeze"
the juice from the grass. Make sure your juicer is suitable for juicing grasses
and leafy greens. If you are looking for a juicer, we offer a variety of affordable
juicers to meet your needs. One pound of wheatgrass should yield approximately
10 ounces of juice. Experts recommend you start by taking a small amount of juice
- about 1 oz. - on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning, and do not eat
or drink for 15 minutes afterward. You can then gradually build up your intake
to 2 ozs. daily.
